MEET JEFF AND DREW

MEET JEFF AND DREW

Jeff & Drew We met in October 2008 at a birthday party and quickly became friends. We started dating in May 2009 and were married on October 25, 2014. We currently live in Branford, CT and recently bought a house and are in process of moving to Naugatuck, CT. We have a cat named Buddy, who definitely runs the household. We volunteer with HIV Equal because we both believe that it is important for everyone to know their status and get treatment as soon as possible. We believe in the mission of HIV Equal to end the stigma associated with HIV and believe that everyone should be treated equally with kindness, compassion and respect.

MEET NASIR

MEET NASIR

Nasir "I am a college student who is trying not to be cursed with an immense student loan debt. It doesn't take much to make me content; I like to travel which allows me to learn more about myself and others, and I love to see people smile. I'm happy that we're progressing in the fight towards equality, but we've got a long way to go! What HIV Equal means to me is understanding that our perception of other human beings should not be influenced by a label."

MEET DEON

Deon "Born and breed in the Bronx, NYC. I'm definitely a lover of creativity. I enjoy breaking barriers and pushing the envelope in everything I do. Along side that, working out/ physical fitness is my great passion. It makes me feel accomplished when I reach my goals and overcome a challenge. I'm a Program Director for an After School Program by day and that gives me joy empowering the youth of tomorrow. Plus, by working out so much helps me be able to keep up with these kids and my staff lol".

What It Means To Be HIV Equal

What It Means To Be HIV Equal

As a reluctant HIV activist, there have only been a handful of public messages about facing down the stigma of being positive that have truly resonated with me. Sure, there are many organizations putting out meaningful content with admirable intent, but their campaigns seem to often fall into only one of two categories. They go a little something like this: "If you are negative, take charge and save yourself before it’s too late." "If you are positive, you don’t have to feel like garbage even though society may view you as such. Life doesn’t have to suck as much as you think it does." As lovely as these campaigns may be, I was neither HIV negative nor did I ever allow myself to feel like garbage and I certainly didn’t care
