MEET MARTIN

Martin I am from Willimantic, CT originally from Mexico, I work as a server and I am Zumba instructor too. I am a guy full of dreams and always striving to do my best at what I do. Being apart of HIV Equal has made me feel even prouder of myself and my community because I know there are people who still care. I know no one is alone and there are people who care to inform and educate you about HIV, its prevention and treatment. "Viva (long live)" And never give up, there's a solution for anything.

MEET ROBERT

MEET ROBERT

Robert As a Social Worker working with adolescents I prepare youth in foster care to move on to become independent young adults. Youths in foster care face challenges, including making healthy behavioral choices and are also at higher risk to exhibit behaviors which puts them at higher risk for hiv infection. In order to keep kids safe and healthy it is an obligation to ensure youth are educated and provided the information on making healthy and responsible decisions. Knowledge is power and knowing your status is essential. I support the HIV equal campaign for their efforts to break down biases and remove social stigma that serves as a barrier for individuals to get tested.

MEET ANDRE

Andre "I'm a Brazilian pharmacy technician and pharmacy student in Connecticut. Working with HIV medications and PrEP showed me that HIV is both treatable and preventable and hopefully someday curable. That's why HIV equal to me means freedom from the fear and stigma that is so often associated with the status. It was that fear that prevented people from finding out their own status and it was stigma that prevented people from trying to help." #HIVequal

MEET JOE

MEET JOE

Joe I've been living in Washington, DC for over 26 years and work at a private non-profit institution that provides independent advice on health policy. I know the benefits of a proper balanced diet, physical fitness and being tested regularly. Knowing your status is paramount for yourself, your partner, our community ...everyone. Each one of us is cherished and equally valued on this earth, so ending the stigma can happen if each of us becomes more educated, involved and an accepting community. We all have a status. Being HIV Equal means to me that you're informed, comfortable, and in control of your status. ‪#‎ TestPhotoFight‬

I'm all about expressing myself and I thrive off social activity; meeting new people is something I'm all about. HIV Equal is about taking strides towards a more educated and accepting community. Moving forward, I will educate others to promote a healthier environment that does not stigmatize people. We all have a status! #hivequal

Eric "I'm from Boston MA and work as a photographer shooting models around New England, as well as an aspiring footwear designer. Being HIV Equal to me means maintaining control in your life. If you take the time to get tested and take control of your situation, you'll always have a step up over this disease. Ending the stigma isn't something we can do alone, we all have to work together to help each other thrive and continue to live our lives equally"

MEET JOEY

MEET JOEY

Joey He has been working in the field of HIV for nearly 20 years, he holds a Master’s degree in genetics and is a fierce HIV/AIDS activist inspired by the death of his father who died when Joey was just a child. The decimation of the hemophiliac population and the gay community in the 80s and 90s -- and the hardships and struggles faced by the survivors -- was heartbreaking to him. But he be came fascinated and excited by the many huge scientific advances that have been made in the fight against HIV in recent years, and is grateful for the hope they provide for all of us. He is driven to educate others about HIV, and encourages people to get tested regularly and to be responsible about knowing their status. The mission of HIV
