Meet Bryan

Meet Bryan

Bryan  I work in the backgrounds of the television industry by day and am a writer by night. I chose my status word because I pride myself on my individuality and celebrate the individuality of others. While we are all human and all bleed the same color, we have been given a gift to be unique in our own right and whatever person we want to be.  Being HIV Equal speaks directly to that uniqueness we have as individuals. Regardless of our status, positive or negative, we are all human. We must remove the stigma attached to those differences and only then will we be able to conquer the battle against something that so many before us never had the opportunity to do.

Meet Craig

Meet Craig

Craig  I work in Government Affairs at AIDS Project Los Angeles. I chose 'worthy' because growing up I was extremely religious and worthiness was a virtue that could only be achieved by making correct choices. Worthiness was such an important goal, but it was always so difficult to achieve. I've since learned that worthiness is not something that must be sought after, my worthiness does not change, and I am worthy just for being me. Each of us has intrinsic value and worth. Being HIV Equal means that regardless of status we are all worthy. We all deserve to live a life free of guilt, fear, and shame."

Meet Scott

Meet Scott

Scott  I shoot and edit videos for HIV Equal and BEAT AIDS Project Zimbabwe. I am married with two delightful, well-behaved children. I grew up obsessed with skateboarding, drumming, 70s jazz, 80s hardcore, electronic/dance music, NHL hockey, Howard Stern and video games, in no particular order. But today, I would be most likely found coaching my kid’s soccer team. I am grateful for the opportunity to travel with the HIV Equal team. We have met so many interesting people from around the world. That’s what helps me to be HIV Equal….I’m trying to capture and tell YOUR stories. Peace and love, peace and love!

Meet Mark S. King

Meet Mark S. King

Mark S King  Mark S. King has been writing about living with HIV since he tested positive in 1985. His blog, My Fabulous Disease, was nominated for a 2015 GLAAD Media Award and chronicles his life with HIV and spotlights other advocates working in the arena. "We all have a responsibility to end this epidemic, positive and negative alike, which is why I'm grooving on the mission of HIV Equal. Any campaign that features joyful, strong, unapologetic faces in this fight has definitely got the right idea."

Meet Ryan

Meet Ryan

RYAN I am a Senior at the University of Michigan studying International Studies, Global Health. I am currently applying to graduate schools to earn my Masters in Public Health in hopes of becoming a Project Manager for sexual-minority youth prevention programs. To me, HIV Equal means that we all have a status, whether it is positive, negative, or unknown, we all have an equal status. With that being said, my status is DEVOTED: to abolish the stigma associated with being HIV+ or LGBT-identifying. Fortunately, I did not receive any discrimination or backlash from my friends when I came “out;” rather, I was told, “Oh, Ryan! We all knew that!” Though that is also not the type of response I would like to be told, it was

MEET PETE

MEET PETE

Pete I was born and raised in Connecticut and I currently reside in Hartford. I work as a Benefits Specialist for a major insurance company in the area. To me, being HIV equal means that I am an advocate for removing the stigma of HIV simply being a death sentence. With the advances in medicine and education alike, we now know how to prevent and treat HIV. Everyone deserves a chance to live long and prosperous lives, and by ridding the idea that HIV is a deadly disease, everyone will be able to do so equally!

MEET MARIO

MEET MARIO

Mario Cantone He is an American stand-up comedian, writer and actor, with numerous appearances on Comedy Central including Chappelle's Show. He also played Anthony Marentino on Sex and the City and is a regular on the View. His style is fast-paced and energetic, with much of his humor coming from his impersonations of various characters ranging from his family members, to celebrities, to stereotypes. We met Mario this past February in Palm Springs when he attended our HIV Equal event held at Destination PSP. Having Mario's support only helps us get the message out there that knowing your status is prevention.

MEET ANTHONY

MEET ANTHONY

Anthony Anthony was born and raised in Connecticut. As soon as it was possible he started doing hair, make-up and making people feel as beautiful on the outside as they do on the inside! Lucky for him he’s loved it ever since. Over a decade later he is still doing it and thriving. Aside from his career his family is extremely important to him, its a strong Italian trait. Throughout his life he was supported completely by his parents and family, coming out was never an issue for him because he didn’t have to do it. He was born gay and that was that. Giving back is so important to Anthony, he always says if you are able to give back, do. Being a certified HIV tester he not only gets to help people find out their status but he can along
