HIV Outbreak in Indiana Prompts Gov. Pence to Sign Needle Exchange Order

Due to a recent outbreak of HIV among injection drug users in a rural Indiana county, Governor Mike Pence signed an emergency, short-term order that would create a needle exchange program and provide resources to local residents affected by the outbreak.  The 30-day program will be re-evaluated after that time period and allows the Governor to either sign another short-term order or eliminate the program altogether. Previously, Pence has not supported a needle exchange program and has only recently created one as a result of the recent health crisis.
